There is absolutely no doubt that the EPIA EX's memory performance is abysmal, even when you're comparing single channel versus single channel, the AMD Athlon X2 BE-2350 annihilates it with its on-board memory controller and DDR2 800MHz support. The combination of only single channel memory on a separate chipset, 400MHz front side bus and 533MHz DDR2 provides a real limitation to the C7 CPU. It's really hard to fathom that this is the latest bus that VIA uses, as the whole concept of using a front side bus and memory bus requires more energy use. Designing a new CPU isn't an overnight job, but VIA should be aiming for an on-CPU memory controller - even Intel has realised that is what is needed in the future.
